moonlight

i miss you most
in moonlit moments
when truth comes to light
so much is unspoken
in the spotlight of day
we are deer in its headlights
–paralyzed–
unable to react
not knowing where to run
or which way to jump
and if we stand completely still
–and do nothing–
we feel safe
not knowing our fate
as venison seared onto the grill
of a MAC truck.
i miss you under the covers
in the darkness
when we are most vulnerable
unaware of our predators
i miss you when we are bunnies
with cotton balls at our backsides
and rabbit holes worthy of Wonderland.

if i could, i would take a cleaver and slice two square inches of skin off my chest, wait for this pool of sweat to dry into salt- and sew it all into a little pouch to give you. i’d hope that you would keep this just to remember how it feels for your blushing centipede lips to crawl over my open heart.
