Change

I’m tired of “Angry Asian Americans”–or those who purport themselves as such–blaming everything on “America.” I, too, am America, and I don’t fetishize or stereotype or oppress Asian Americans. Shame on you for committing the same crime you lambast: equating “America” with “white,” particularly “white oppression.”
I, too, am America, and I am tired of being Anrgy with a capital “A.” I’m tired of screaming and ranting and writing bitter polemics. I’m tired of listening to Angry Asian poetry.
I am ready to effect change.
I’m ready to grab the axe–sharply honed from decades of grinding–and start hacking away at barriers, start felling trees to build bridges, and start opening doors to abandoned temples.
I, too, am America.
I, too, am Asian America.
And I am ready for angry words
like ant bites
to be assuaged by salve,
For Asian America to be salvaged by action,
And that action to be guided by the salvation of hope, not anger.
I am tired of being angry.
I am ready to effect change.
